Pan-Lin Shao 邵攀霖

Professor · Guangzhou Medical University

Pan-Lin Shao received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011 (supervisor: Prof. Song Ye), and conducted postdoctoral research at the National University of Singapore from 2012 to 2014 (supervisor: Prof. Yu Zhao). He joined SUSTech as a Research Associate Professor and doctoral supervisor in 2018. His research focuses on the development of novel in vitro diagnostic technologies and asymmetric synthetic methodologies. He has published nearly 40 high-level papers, including over 10 first- or corresponding-author papers in J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., and ACS Catalysis, and has been granted more than ten national invention patents.

Ying Liu 刘莹

Research Assistant Professor

Ying Liu received her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Peking University in 2016. She worked in equity investment in the health industry from 2016 to 2019, then conducted postdoctoral research at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, SUSTech from 2019 to 2021. Her research focuses on nucleic acid and protein detection, liquid biopsy, and clinical applications. She has published nearly 20 SCI papers as first or corresponding author in Nature Biomedical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, and Chemical Science, and has led multiple national and provincial grants. The viral nucleic acid automated extraction technology she developed has received US FDA Emergency Use Authorization.

Hongjun Xiao 肖宏军

Senior Research Scholar

Hongjun Xiao holds a Ph.D. in Science. His research applies interdisciplinary approaches across biology, chemistry, and materials science to study liver diseases—including liver fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma—at the molecular, therapeutic, and detection levels. Specific directions include: (1) molecular mechanisms of extracellular matrix proteins in liver disease; (2) hepatic stellate cell-based therapeutic strategies; (3) high-throughput detection methods for liver disease-associated pathogens HBV, HCV, and HIV. He also works on the development and application of novel biotechnologies.

Yanping Sun 孙燕平

Postdoctoral Researcher

Yanping Sun holds a Ph.D. in Science and is originally from Yantai, Shandong. He completed his undergraduate and doctoral training at the University of Science and Technology Beijing. His research integrates organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, coordination chemistry, and surface chemistry to achieve early in vitro detection of disease biomarkers at the molecular, microscopic interface, and macroscopic signal levels. Specific directions include: (1) site-specific nucleobase modification and next-generation sequencing for early in vitro diagnosis; (2) metal-enhanced luminescence-based AIE-type NIR gold nanocluster composites for ultrasensitive detection of disease biomarkers.

Jiahui Lv 吕嘉晖

Ph.D. Candidate · 2021

Jiahui Lv is from Shiyan, Hubei. He completed his B.S. at Dalian University of Technology and his M.S. at Tsinghua University. He joined the lab in 2021 to pursue his Ph.D., with a research focus on nucleic acid extraction technology development and applications. He has co-authored 15 SCI papers, including two first-author papers in Water Research and Analytical Chemistry. Outside the lab, he enjoys cats, fitness, and League of Legends.

Li Cheng 程立

Li Cheng is a 2022 Ph.D. student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at SUSTech. His research focuses on using magnetic nanobeads for cell-free DNA extraction for disease screening and diagnosis, deep learning for medical database mining, and computer-aided small molecule drug and protein design. Jingkai Yang 杨景凯

Jingkai Yang is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at SUSTech. Guanghui Wang 王光会

Guanghui Wang is a research and teaching assistant in the Bo Zhang Lab at SUSTech, specializing in nucleic acid and protein detection. Her expertise covers biological sample processing, nucleic acid extraction, and detection analysis. She participated in the FEMMAN single-copy multiplexed nucleic acid detection platform project and co-authored the results as a co-first author in Nature Biomedical Engineering.

Jiahu Tang specialized in protein computation, molecular dynamics simulation, and bioinformatics. He built the lab's supercomputing cluster and is skilled in Blender, 3DMAX, Photoshop, and Solidworks for scientific visualization. He completed his B.S. in Materials Physics at Nanjing University and worked at CATL before graduate school. He is currently a Ph.D. student at HKUST (Guangzhou).

Bingyun Wang 王炳云

Bingyun Wang's research covered high-sensitivity in vitro diagnostic devices, DFT calculations, and organic synthesis, including work on COVID-19 protein detection, monkeypox nucleic acid test strips, LAMP assay design, and two-photon photocatalysis.

Ruibin Hu 胡瑞彬

Ruibin Hu received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. As a postdoctoral researcher in the lab, his research focused on developing highly sensitive and selective in vitro analytical methods for disease biomarkers and their application in early diagnosis.

Zha Gao 炸糕

Black Shiba Inu · Born 2024-10-21

Born on October 21, 2024, Zha Gao is a unique black Shiba Inu. His deep black coat evokes the backdrop of a night sky, while touches of gold on his brow, ear edges, and paws add a warm luminous accent — as though sunlight has gently passed over him. Alert and playful, Zha Gao tilts his head to observe the world, his bright black eyes gleaming with intelligence. When he runs, that flash of gold shines in the sunlight like a leaping flame. This one-of-a-kind "Wangwang Scholar" is destined to be the most special companion in Prof. Zhang's life.

Bao Mi 米宝

Blue Mitted Ragdoll · Born 2020-11-01

Bao Mi is a blue mitted Ragdoll, an introvert cat, and a Cat Scholar in the Bo Zhang Lab. Daughter of Liu Yuandan and A-li, she successfully arrived on Earth in November 2020. Don't let her timid appearance fool you — the word "cowardly" simply does not apply to her. She is the kind of cat who will march into a neighbor's home to "uphold justice," with an air of "this territory runs by my rules." Her favorite pastimes include exposing her belly to sunbathe and snacking on freeze-dried treats — though, yes, she is a bit picky. But really, which cat isn't?
